21 Oct 2008 Nikkor AF-S 70-200 F2.8 with Canon 500D

Filed under: Photographic Notes — ghorse@8:39 PM

When I have decided to get the Nikkor AF-S 70-200 F2.8, I have also decided that this lens will goes with a Canon 500D close up lens as my macro lens.  The close up lens reduced the closest focusing distance of the 70-200 from 1.5m down to about 0.6m.  That would means the closest subject distance from the lens front about 0.25m.  The longest subject distance this lens combo can still focus is at 0.75m.  So, the first thing to do is to place the lens to the range of 0.6m to 0.75m from the subject and then use AF to focus.  Yes, AF still work with the 500D close up lens installed.

Although the combo can still hold focus when zooming, it is always worth noting that focusing with the tele end seems more accurate.

  1. I Googled the 500D. So it works on a Nikon lens too, eh?
