28 Aug 2009 My 2nd Crab Pro Series 4 Digimate

I need to buy a 2nd digimate from Crab as my first one fried during my trip to Yang Jiang last week. It is a cheap device and frankly I don’t expected it to last forever. Just cost about USD30 and you put you choice of 2.5 inches hard disk drive into it. Transfer speed is just great and the built in battery could copy three 4G cards to the hard drive. What I normally do is copy the memory card to the digimate and then copy the data from the digimate to my notebook. Then when I do my photo selection and post processing on my notebook, I could also make sure all date have been copied correctly.
What have I did when my digimate failed in the middle of a trip? I just connect my camera to my notebook and copy the files to my notebook directly. The moto: Always have a backup plan for things that needs to be done in the field.
How long have my last digimate lasted? Just 2 months over a year.

They should change the name from crab to crap. How do you get a notebook that has a sata connection? Is it built-in or you added some card?

The Dell E4300 comes with an ESATA port. So, I just need to get a ESATA hard disk enclosure (For the 2.5 inches hard drive) and ESATA to SATA cable to connect directly to my 3.5 inches hard drive. And they are real fast for “Big” files copy. But small files, there is no difference compare with USB 2.0
